Gastroenterologist

Earlier today we had an appointment with the Gastroenterologist. He gave me a little more information about the procedure that will be done on Thursday, September 18th at St. Luke's hospital in Boise. Dr. Beck, Tye's ENT doctor, will clean out his lungs and scope the esophagus. Dr. Thompson will then follow by doing several biopsies in the esophagus, stomach and small intestine. From the biopsies they will be looking for allergies, celiac disease and scar tissue caused from his reflux.

It has been seven weeks since our last pediatrician appointment which is a record for us! Although, that is good news, the bad news is that Tye gained very little between that appointment and today. Dr. Thompson assured me that Tye should be bigger by now, and that he should have outgrown the reflux by this age.

Tye's Best Bud

Yes, Tye's first word was dad followed by mom and not long after came Bo. Tye will wake up from a nap or get up in the morning and his first word in his tiny cute voice is, "Bo". If you have ever met Bo, it will probably surprise you how calm he is with Tye around. Tye steps on him, pokes him in the eyes, lays on him, and teases him by carrying around dog treats while hiding under the table where Bo can't reach.

Football

The 2008/09 football season is now underway. Bob began traveling more in July and will continue to until he has a break in December. The browns added New Mexico and part of Texas to his scouting area this year. Tye and I are adjusting to this transition pretty well. We have a good support system built up now that we are approaching the one year mark from our move to Idaho.

Tye is very interested in football...his dad (or mom) wouldn't have it any other way! He has recently added football and touchdown to his quickly expanding vocabulary. He uses 20-25 words on a regular basis. Like everything else developmentally Tye had a slow start but once the rain started it poured. He is even starting to put 2 words together. He signs more please (he can also say these words but is used to signing them).

Tye's ENT Appointment

Tye visited an Ear Nose & Throat doctor this week to look further into his reflux and recurring croup. From January to June Tye had 4 cases of the croup sending him to the ER and numerous doctors. In addition to the croup Tye still suffers from severe reflux. Now that he is older his spitting up has turned into vomiting 3-4 times a day.

Tye will undergo a procedure in the next month where his doctor will sedate him and scope his throat. She will be looking for any internal hemangiomas (like on his head) or scar tissue that can build up in the area. Apparently it is common for internal hemangiomas to be in the throat area. Hemangiomas grow over time which could cause the airway to be blocked. If one is present she will use a laser to shrink it. She will also biopsy tissue that will determine the severity of his reflux.

A gastroenterologist will also be present for this procedure. The ENT will place a tube down Tye's throat when she is finished to able the GI doctor to look further down than his throat. This will allow them to look at both of Tye's issues all at once which is great for him being so little. He will be under anesthesia for approximately 30 minutes.

We will be meeting the GI doctor in the next couple of weeks before the procedure. I will post any new information when I have it!
